My Top 5 Dishes

Updated: Sep 20, 2020

Well DYJ family, the first dish on my top 5 list was easy was easy to name. It had to be something from my home country, Jamaica. Defining other favorites to eat was harder. Let’s get into this delicous list!

  • Ackee & salt fish (I substitute the salt fish with a vegan ‘bacon’ or eat just the ackees sautéed in onions, garlic, peppers, other spices) with callaloo (a green leafy vegetable, similar to spinach) on the side.

Ackee and salf fish (bacalao) is the national dish of Jamaica. I just had to

lead with it. The ackee fruit resembles large chunks of scrambled eggs

when cooked. The ackee tends to soak up the delicious flavors of everything

in the pot. Its tetexture is creamy and buttery. Irrisistable!

Okay, let's continue with that list of other tasty treats I enjoy. Shall we?

  • Omelette: with sautéed onions, garlics, mushrooms and spinach.

  • Vegetable eggrolls: fill them with cabbage, onions, garlic, spinach and spices and I will bite EVERYTIME!

  • Kale salad with avocado, beans, carrots and quinoa

  • Cabbage, carrots, and beet salad – that’s the Jamaican in me again
